WORLD DATA ON ASH UTILIZATION

Ash Production                    = 460 Million Tones
                      Ash Utilization                     = 153 Million Tones   (33%)
Filler for mines, quarries     = 41 Million Tones
Structural fill                        = 40 Million Tones
                      Cement & Concrete              = 40 Million Tones
Building products                = 14 Million Tones

    1.                     In India Coal quality is poor.
    2.                    Average Ash Content is about 40%, which is 3-4 times that of European/American coals.
    3.                    Average Cal. Value is of the order of 3500 Kcal/Kg, which is 0.5 to  0.6, times that of European/American  coals. Therefore the ash production is 5 to 8 times higher.
  •         Compared to fly ashes in USA, Japan and France, Indian flyashes are characterized by relatively high silica content,  high alumna content, high-unburned carbon and low Coal content. The glass content of Indian flyash is indeed low (20% -30%) compared to other countries which is as high as 80% or even more. Further the glass content in Indian flyash is also not available in the desired spherical shape. hence, Indian flyashes are in general intrinsically less pozzolanic.
  •         Very small percentage (three to five percent) of the fly ash generated in India is being used for gainful applications. The corresponding figures for the other countries vary from 30-80%. In fact, Denmark imports  fly ash and exports its finished products.
