Compared to fly ashes in USA, Japan and France, Indian flyashes are characterized by relatively high silica content, high alumna content, high-unburned carbon and low Coal content. The glass content of Indian flyash is indeed low (20% -30%) compared to other countries which is as high as 80% or even more. Further the glass content in Indian flyash is also not available in the desired spherical shape. hence, Indian flyashes are in general intrinsically less pozzolanic. Very small percentage (three to five percent) of the fly ash generated in India is being used for gainful applications. The corresponding figures for the other countries vary from 30-80%. In fact, Denmark imports fly ash and exports its finished products. Percentage of collected Flyash used in cement and concrete in following countries:
